ЁЯЗмЁЯЗз Atal Bihari Vajpayee – Statesman, Poet, Visionary Leader
Introduction
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of India’s most respected political leaders, admired not only for his leadership but also for his oratory skills, poetic depth, and democratic values. Born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Vajpayee rose from humble beginnings to become the 10th Prime Minister of India.
He was a rare combination of firmness and compassion, ideology and inclusiveness, politics and poetry. His life journey is a lesson in patience, perseverance, and patriotism.
Early Life and Education
Atal Ji was born into a middle-class Brahmin family. His father, Krishna Bihari Vajpayee, was a school teacher and poet. This literary environment deeply influenced young Atal.
He completed his education from Victoria College (now Maharani Laxmi Bai College) in Gwalior and later pursued Political Science from DAV College, Kanpur.
From a young age, he was influenced by nationalist ideas and became associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Entry into Politics
Vajpayee’s political career formally began with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, founded by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
